Conference Awards and Scoring
All participants in the Model UN program are expected to conduct research, prepare well for oral and written arguments, and to make good speeches and presentations in committee sessions.
Conference awards are made to foster excellence in preparation and presentation of materials. In making these awards, the overriding concern is to create an environment of fairness and impartiality in the evaluation of each individual delegation. Chairs of committes are expected to evaluate the delegates in their committees who have contributed the most in order to make award presentations at the end of the conference.
By rewarding outstanding performance, CCWAMUN seeks to foster friendly competition among individual delegates, as well as among the various delegations participating in the conference. Awards are made to Delegations, to Individuals and to Schools.
Delegation Awards
During committee sessions, the Chairs and/or Assistant Chairs and MUN Observers evaluate each delegation, marking a scoring rubric for participation for the four scoring categories:
1. Verbal Skills: Formal Debate and Moderated Caucus
2. Writing Skills: Resolutions and Amendments
3. Knowledge of Topics/Policy
4. Parliamentary Procedure
After the committee sessions, the MUN Observer tallies marks and calculates the data for award of Superior, Excellent, and Honorable Mention rankings (highest to lowest of the top scoring delegations in that committee session). The values of the four categories are used to develop a composite score for the country delegations in each committee.
At the end of the conference, the MUN Observer - in consultatoin with the Chairs/Co-chairs - selects two delegations in each committee to receive special recognition: one delegation is awarded a Superior rating, and the other an Excellent rating, based on overall scores. Honorable Mention awards are awarded at the discretion of committee staff. These delegations will be recognized during the closing ceremonies. After the conference, faculty advisors may receive a printout of their delegations' evaluations.
Individual Delegate Gavel Award
The SINGLE delegate from each Committee who makes the greatest contribution to activities during the Committee sessions will receive the Chair’s gavel at the closing ceremony.
School Awards
Schools can also earn awards based on a tally of the final scores of the delegations from each school at each conference. Traditionally the overall "Best School Delegation" from each session will be awarded a silver bowl monogrammed with the name of the school and year. The Model UN team at that school will keep the bowl for one year. The silver bowls are awarded at the CCWA Annual Meeting held in May or June.
