Guidelines for Country Profile, Position Paper, Submissions
Preparing and Submitting Country Profile and Position Papers for Jr. Model UN
---Country Profile---
1) Students should first complete the Country Profile (click on this link)
---Research---
2) Next, research your UN Committee, and topics your Committee will discuss.
---Position Paper---
3) Then, you are ready to develop your country's foreign policy.
A Position Paper is a brief one-page (250 words) summary of your country's policy on the agenda topic. It should accurately reflects the country's perspective not the delegate's personal opinions.
Position Papers may be organized in the following format:
a) Define the problem;
b) Identify policy goals;
c) Recommend what action the committee and the country is to take.
To begin, answer the following questions on your topic:
1) What is the main problem?
2) What causes the problem?
3) What are your country's goals for the problem?
4) How should the problem be solved?
5) What is the desired outcome?
6) How can you accomplish your goals?
7) What does your country want the committee to do?
Using your answers to these questions and your research, write your Position Paper on the topics your committee will be discussing.
