Responsibilities of the MUN Committee Staff

Before the Conference

1. Is thoroughly familiar with the Rules of Parliamentary Procedure
2. Is familiar with their committee topics (by reading their committee's Topic Papers)


At the Conference

1. Is at the committee meetings 15 minutes before the appointed time
2. Advises the delegations on the possible course of debate, and suggests any motions which would be looked upon favorably


In General

1. Is impartial, fair, honest, and respectful
2. Promotes the participation of all delegates
3. Is professional in conduct


Responsibilities of the Chair At the Conference

1. Calls the sessions to order, opens and closes each session, and rules on points of order
2. May limit speaking time, limit the speakers' list or decide the propriety of any procedural motion


Responsibilities of the Assistant Chair At the Conference

1. Directs discussions, accords the right to speak, puts questions, announces decisions, and ensures and
enforces the observance of the rules.
2. May propose the adoption of any procedural motion to which there is no significant objection.
